Pharmacogenetics
Have you ever questioned why a medication did not work for you, or why you experienced negative side effects, even though someone taking the same medication experienced no problems? The answer may be based in your genetics. Genetic factors can account for more than 90% of how you respond to medications, making "one-size-fits-all" prescribing inefficient.
Pharmacogenomics uses information about a person's genetic makeup, or genome, to choose the drugs and drug doses that are likely to work best for that particular person. This information allows providers to better manage medications for their patients, providing quicker, more efficient treatment.
Pharmacogenetics can be used in the following areas:
ADHD/ Neurology
Cardiology
Gastrointestinal medicine
Mental Health/ Psychiatry
Orthopedic medicine
Pain Management
Urology
Who is this test for?
This test is for anyone that wants comprehensive information about how they may react to different types of common drugs. Some drugs can work better for some people and not for others, this test can tell us why.
Process and Results
Pharmacogenomics testing is done with non-invasive sampling using a buccal swab (cheek swab), although blood sampling can also be used in some cases.
Our lab takes between 5 to 7 business days for results, after prior authorization.
Results will be available on our online portal, please ask your provider for details.
Genesys Diagnostics offers Genetic Counseling to review results with a specialist and discuss any clinically significant results. We will facilitate a meeting between the counselor and patient/provider to discuss results.
