  • Job Title: Cytogenetics & FISH Technologist
    Department: Clinical Laboratory
    Reports to: Director and President

    General Description (Purpose and Function):
    The primary responsibility of Clinical Cytogenetics FISH Technologist position is to possess knowledge in FISH, Cytogenetics and Microarray testing and to possess analytical abilities to be able to perform FISH, cytogenetic and Microarray testing. In addition the Cytogenetic Technologist will possess professional skills and experience in a laboratory setting and the ability to relate professionally with people and teams, motivate others, possess organizational skills, time management skills, research information, written and verbal communications skills.

      Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Performs microscopic analysis of chromosomes and imaging
    • Performs fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) procedures and analysis
    • Perform microarray wet lab and analysis
    • Proficient in culture initiation, harvesting cells, staining slides, and tissue culture
    • Distinguish between abnormal and normal test results
    • Summarize test results utilizing ISCN nomenclature
    • Maintains clinical and internal documentation files
    • Summarizes test results and may write case reports in preparation for director level sign out
    • Trouble shoots and works on improving lab procedures
    • Maintains current SOPs and generates new ones according to laboratory procedures
    • Establishes cultures of peripheral blood, amniotic fluid, CVC samples, products of conception, bone marrow, skin biopsy and tumor tissue.
    • Monitors the progress of cell culture and feeding cells.
    • Knows the appropriate time for harvesting cell cultures and perform harvesting.
    • Performs slide preparation and banding techniques.
    • Gains experience in microscopic analysis of banded chromosomes; molecular and cytogenetics testing.
    • Records results on worksheets, summary sheet and reporting results using correct nomenclature.
    • Identifies technical problems and reports to lab director or lab management.
    • Catalogues and files all slides to be used as part of the patient’s medical records.
    • Follows proper safety policies and procedures when performing all laboratory duties.
    • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
    • Monitors good general laboratory skills, quality assurance principles and safety protocols
    • Understand legal implications of the work environment and exhibit appropriate ethical and professional health care standards while demonstrating professional conduct, stress management and interpersonal and communication skills
    • Overseas the operations of Cytogenetics laboratory in a high volume laboratory producing chromosomal analysis and FISH
    • Responsible for reviewing operations, producing justification for new/replacement equipment, quality assurance, expense control and managing operating budget
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry and biology as related to standardized test and procedures in laboratory.
    • Knowledge of laboratory methods and procedures.
    • Knowledge of techniques used in performing quality control.
    • Knowledge of the techniques used in calibrating analytical instruments.
    • Knowledge of records, forms and reports used in the area of assignment.
    • Ability to perform laboratory test and checks used in laboratory procedures
    • Ability to make accurate observation and reports of results
    • Skill in laboratory manipulative techniques.

      Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
    • 4 year college degree-BS or equivalent.
    • ASCP Board of Certification in Cytogenetics

      Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
    • 6 months Cytogenetics and FISH Experience Preferred

  • Job Summary:
    Genesys Diagnostics Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and technology-savvy molecular biologist/biochemist, who will join Clinical team for New Next Generation Sequencing Assay Development. Successful candidate must be passionate about wet-lab driven experimentations to find innovative solutions to development hurdles. Candidate must have strong analytical skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and strong track record of independent as well as collaborative research.

      Essential Functions:
    • Apply advanced and expert scientific knowledge to sequencing assay development
    • Performs a variety of routine and non-routine laboratory research experiments including library preparations for next generation sequencing
    • Take initiatives to conceive, design and carry-out hypothesis driven feasibility experiments, understanding both theoretical and practical aspects of the experimental design
    • Drive wet-lab experimentation and subsequent data analysis/interpretation activities
    • Work interactively with Lab Director, bioinformatics specialists and hardware/software engineers

      Requirements:
    • Ph.D. or Masters in Life/Chemical/Physical/Engineering Sciences
    • Training and/or post-doctoral work experience in NGS assay development
    • Extensive hands-on, state-of-the-art molecular biology experience
    • Track-record of working with novel NGS assays
    • Broad knowledge of nucleic acid characterization techniques, especially hybridization-based assays
    • Able to identify and evaluate commercial technologies to determine their appropriateness and usefulness in technology innovation/development

      Additional Qualifications include:
    • Familiarity with NGS bioinformatics

  • Job Summary:
    Genesys Diagnostics is seeking motivated Clinical Molecular Technologists to perform complex molecular diagnostic testing. The candidate will work independently and with other technologists to complete high quality molecular testing and analysis using multiple technology platforms such as, Multiplex PCR, MLPA, Sanger Sequencing and Next Generation Sequencing. Routine blood extractions and tissue culture may also be performed by this candidate. This candidate will write and review SOPs and other documents related to their work.

      Responsibilities
      As a member of the Clinical Laboratory team, the candidate will:
    • Perform complex molecular genetics testing at a high level of quality within established timeframes
    • Complete results analysis within established timeframes.
    • Assist with general laboratory support including supply inventory, cleaning, calibrating and monitoring equipment.
    • Partner with technical supervisor to troubleshoot procedures.
    • Demonstrate effective communication with peers and colleagues.
    • Assists with general laboratory support including performing preventative maintenance on equipment, inventory and ordering, temperature monitoring and quality control procedures.
    • Participate in the training of other technologists at the direction of the lab manager.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work space.
    • Review and revise SOPs as needed or as requested by lab manager.
    • Maintain a positive attitude when faced with challenges.
    • Follow established safety protocols at all times.
    • Take on independent projects and tasks beyond routine work, at the discretion of the lab manager.

      Educational Requirements:
    • Degree in Medical Technology or a BS, MA or PhD in Biology or other related life science
    • ASCP Certification in Molecular Biology or eligibility to take ASCP preferred

      Experience/Abilities :
    • Strong foundations in molecular biology principles.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
    • Work successfully in a multidisciplinary team environment.
    • Prior experience in regulated laboratory environment (e.g. CLIA) is preferred.
    • Prior experience with NGS and human genetics is a plus.
